- How are Salukis with children?

- Well, the answer is simple - how is the children with dogs?

It is actually as simple as that, a lot depends on how the child is towards animals. Have they been taught that a dog is not a toy? What about knowing the different signals a dog makes when feeling happy or uncomfortable? Children will always be children and dogs will always be dogs. It is the adults responsibility to always make sure they are all safe from any harm.

Of course, there are breeds that are more difficult than other and need more training, but let us not forget that even the most calm dog in the world can get to a point where enough is enough.

Salukis are gentle dogs and very calm indoors. But when they are puppies and youngsters - they are wild. All our salukis have always been very friendly and love people. They accept other dogs but unless they are not salukis, they won't easily play with them.

Our two boys are used to some simple rules we have at home:

  1. Never disturb the dogs and the cat while they are sleeping

  2. If you drop food on the floor, it is the dogs property now.

  3. The dogs must be left alone when they are eating.

  4. Always treat our furbabies with respect and lots of love.

So what happens when the salukis and the Pharaoh Hound are sleeping on the couch and the kids really want to watch TV?

Well I found out the other day when I walked in; the kids sit down on the floor - respecting the rule of not disturbing the dogs while sleeping.

Proud! 😊
